Your Buick tires are your first line of defense when you’re out on the open road. That’s why it’s so important to schedule regular tire service, and why you’ll want to be able to recognize when your tires need to be replaced. Shea Buick GMC is here to help you get the tire service you need, so you can take every drive with peace of mind.

Tread Depth

When the tread on your tires begins to wear down, it becomes more difficult for your vehicle to grip the surface of the road, which can affect safety and responsiveness. It is recommended to use a penny to determine if your vehicle has thick enough tread for safe driving, but most modern tires also have built-in treadwear indicators, as well. Pay close attention to uneven wear between tires, as this can indicate an issue with the suspension or alignment.

Visible Damage

Even if you don’t notice issues while driving, it’s a good idea to look over your tires often. If you see obvious signs of damage, like punctures or bulges, that typically means your tires will either need to be repaired or replaced. Bulges especially can weaken the tire and should be addressed right away. You may also see wall cracks, often caused by age.

Tire Age

Most vehicle tires will need to be replaced by the six-year mark, so if it’s been some time since you had your tires replaced, you may be coming up on an appointment. It’s always a good idea to check your manual to know exactly when vehicle tires should be replaced. Even if their condition is good, you still don’t want to use older tires for too long, so keep a log of when tires and other essential parts and systems were replaced.
