The right GMC parts can keep your vehicle running smoothly and safely. They can also tell you a lot about how pre-owned vehicles were driven, and give you insight into which pre-owned model is right for you. Shea Buick GMC has your closer look at the pre-owned vehicle purchasing process, and which parts you should inspect when you take a test drive.

Brake Pads

You may or may not be able to inspect the brake pads visually during your test drive, as you’d have to remove the wheel. The good news is you can also inspect brake pads by feel. Pay attention to how responsive the vehicle is when stopping, and how long it takes you to come to a complete stop. If the brake pedal feels spongy under your foot, it could indicate worn or old pads that will need to be replaced.

Tires

The tires on a vehicle can tell you a lot about where the car was driven and how well it was maintained. Look for signs of uneven wear, which can indicate an issue with the alignment or suspension. You also want to inspect tread depth, as a lower tread means the vehicle has a lot of miles or that it was driven in inclement conditions or environments.

Body

You always want to do a visual inspection of the entire vehicle, looking out for signs of cracks, damage, or dents. Pay close attention to areas prone to rust and corrosion, including the fenders and wheel wells. Rust is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to manage and repair, so if you see it on the pre-owned vehicle you are testing, you’ll likely want to move onto the next model.
