Buick service is designed to keep your parts and systems operating at top capacity, which is why it’s so important to follow a regular service schedule. It’s also important to know how to care for your vehicle between appointments, since it’s always better to be prepared when out on the open road. Learn what to do in the event you get a flat tire with Shea Buick GMC.

Get to Safety

The first thing to do if you notice a flat is to get your vehicle to a safe location. Pull away from traffic, put on your hazard lights, and engage the parking brake. If possible, pull over to a flat location to make the tire changing process easier.

Loosen the Lug Nuts and Jack the Vehicle

Before you raise your vehicle up, you want to loosen the lug nuts. Don’t remove them entirely just yet – you simply want to release the seal at this stage. You may need to remove the hub cap or tire cover in order to do so. Then place the jack at the recommended position and lift the vehicle.

Change the Tire

Now is when you’ll want to remove the lug nuts all the way and put them in a safe location. Remove the flat tire and replace it with the spare. Put the lug nuts back on in a star formation, and only tighten them by hand for now.

Lower the Vehicle

Lower the jack until the tire is touching the ground but not entirely sitting on it. Finish tightening the lug nuts, then lower the vehicle all the way. Replace the hubcap and prepare to drive home. Remember that you should not drive on your spare tire for more than 50 miles, so you’ll want to schedule an appointment with our dealership to get a new tire as soon as you can.
